DescriptionNumbers 1-12 are entries in roll form, No. 13 is part of court book in which entries are made consecutively term by term. Nos. 14-28 are part of series of entry books possibly kept by Mayor or on his behalf. They measure 4" × 12" and overlap in date main series of court entry books which begin at No. 29. ContextThe court was held weekly before Mayor & two bailiffs & took cognizance of pleas of debt & other civil pleas. Powers to hold court derived from letters patent of Edward III granted on 7 February 1351-2 CA/1/5 when ancient customs of city were confirmed. Ordinances of 1561 CA/2/17 above include number relating to procedure of court and conduct of its officers
