TitleCourt leet
DescriptionCourt leet jurisdiction was presumably included in right to exercise powers of sheriff, confirmed to citizens of Carlisle in 1352 CA/1/5.. Rolls are usually headed "the mayor's turn, court leet and view of frankpledge ..." followed by date & names of mayor & bailiffs, before whom court was held. Their dating suggests court was held twice yearly, but in Dormont Book CA/2/17, reference is made among ordinances of 1561, to "the thre head inquests at the mayr turnes"
CopiesExtracts from the rolls were published in Ferguson and Nanson "Municipal Records" pp 272-297.
