TitleVictoria Junior/Girls School, Workington
ContextThe Victoria Road schools opened in September 1885 with separate boys', girls' and infants' departments.The girls' school accommodation was extended in 1897-1898. In April 1929 the schools were established as a senior school with pupils between 11 and 16. The juniors transferred to the Central School and new seniors were admitted from Westfield, St John's, St Michael's, Northside and Siddick schools. By 1947 it was a secondary modern.

In July 1967 the school closed. The staff and pupils transferred to the new Newlands School and the Victoria Road buildings were altered to become a new junior school. This opened in June 1969 as a junior and (temporarily) infants' school with 130 pupils transferred from Moss Bay School. There were to be no further intakes of infants.
