ContextWestfield Board School was erected in Cranbourne Street, Westfield, by Workington School Board in 1884 with separate boys', girls', and infants' departments. The boys' and girls' departments were amalgamated as a mixed school in August 1894. Control passed (under the Education Act 1902) to Workington Borough Council in August 1903, and in 1946 (under the Education Act 1944) to Cumberland County Council. In August 1954 new Westfield Junior and Infants' Schools were opened at a site a quarter of a mile south-east, off Nilsson Drive, but the original Westfield School building continued in use under the name Moss Bay County Primary School until May 1969, when its pupils were transferred to the new Victoria Junior School which was established in the remodelled premises of the former Victoria Girls' Secondary School. The records were presumably transferred to Victoria Junior School in 1969 and were not discovered for many years.
